Senator and Vice-President Hubert Humphrey was an active promoter of strengthening collaboration and cooperation between the two countries. After his death in 1978, President Jimmy Carter adopted in honor of the Humphrey international program funded by the U.S. Congress in support of democracy, social justice and aid to developing countries.
Since then, more than 4,600 people from 157 countries have received grants for education 40 U.S. universities.
The program lasts for 1 year and does not expect to receive an academic degree. The emphasis is on the development of professional skills of participants and enhance their personal effectiveness. A preference for proactive candidates with the leadership abilities and have experience in government or public organizations, as well as in the private sector.
During their studies, the fellows are assigned to one of the American universities and participate in a wide variety of activities: weekly seminars Humphrey, conferences, trips across the country, including in Washington, meetings with other program participants.
For participation in competition on award of the Humphrey fellowship program is required before August 1, 2016 submit the application to the Department of press and culture Embassy of the United States. The contest consists of several stages, and final decision rests with the Board name William Fulbright award for international scholarship, who is appointed by the President of the United States.
