Data published by the Statistical Agency for higher education (HESA), placed the University of edge hill in first place among all UK universities for the number of postgraduate students. With 10735 students at the University postgraduate education, edge hill has bypassed such major institutions as the universities of Manchester and Birmingham, who took on this indicator the second and third places respectively. The University has a strong position in areas such as education and health. It is one of the nation's largest providers of postgraduate education of school staff and one of the main suppliers of medical workers of the North-West of England. In recent years the University has funded the creation of a number of postgraduate courses, diversifying the portfolio of programs on business management, computers, scenic art, performing arts and management of volunteer and charitable organizations.
