University of Wales Lampeter and Trinity University College will create a merged University of Wales Trinity Saint David. University of Wales Trinity Saint David will build on the legacy and strengths of two of the oldest institutions of higher education in Wales and will respond to the economic and social needs of the region in the context of the UK.
The Secretary of state of the country Peter Hain on this occasion said: "the new University of Wales Trinity Saint David, combining two of the oldest University of Wales, will strengthen the position of higher education in West Wales. It will provide a dynamic environment in which students can succeed. An innovative vision for the development of the University allows it to continue to attract students from all over Wales, the UK and the rest of the world...". While applications for admission to the new University should be submitted via the University of Wales Lampeter and Trinity University College.
