A prestigious "World University Rankings 2018" from the publisher of the magazine "Times Higher Education" includes 1,000 universities from all over the world, making it the largest table of international universities to date.
This rating is also unique in its kind, its authors take into account all areas of activity research universities: teaching, scholarly activity, knowledge transfer and international cooperation. The table includes universities from 77 countries.
This year, for the first time in 13 years, the first two places in the rankings went to British universities. The University of Oxford for the second time in a row was on the first line, and the Cambridge University jumped to second place from fourth. In a new list of 31 British University entered the top 200 and 93 of the University in the top 1000.
The third place ranking was shared by California Institute of technology and Stanford University. Thus in the latest version of the list 40% of the us universities included in the top 200 (29 of 62) fell into one or more positions. The same tendency is shown in the universities of Canada: only 6 canadian universities entered the top 200, which is 2 less than last year.
Thus, half of the positions in the top 200 is a European school, a large percentage of whom are universities from UK, Germany and the Netherlands. In Italy, Spain and the Netherlands was replaced by the best universities in the country. In Italy and Spain they were the Scuola Superiore Sant'anna and University of Pompeu Fabra, respectively. The University of Amsterdam took the 59th place in the ranking. Compared to last year, the University increased the number of post-graduates (relative to the number of employees and graduates), increased wages of researchers, numbers of publications and citations.
Another notable trend was the rise of Chinese universities. This Asian country is now represented by two universities in the top 30 — Beijing University and Tsinghua University.
