Based in Northamptonshire, at the heart of England and only a short journey from London, Birmingham, Oxford and Cambridge, there is never a shortage of things to do and see. While the county boasts rolling countryside, castles and canals, the town of Northampton offers students an exciting urban experience, complete with activities, events, nightclubs, bars, shops and sports. At the University of Northampton we offer all our students an outstanding academic experience, filled with learning and teaching excellence, cutting edge facilities and an exciting and stimulating life both on and off campus.​


Each year the university welcomes more than 1,000 international students from more than 100 countries. Students can expect to find high quality academic teachings, first class resour​ces and a friendly, supportive ​learning environment. All students benefit from the unique opportunity to develop international relationships and networks through learning alongside others from a wide range of countries and cultures. We offer up to 25% scholarships to international students who have high academic grades in their previous qualifications.


Education has an extensive history in Northampton dating back to the 13th century whilst the University of Northampton has evolved from the beginning of the 20th century. It was established as a Northampton Technical College in 1924. It was founded from a marriage of Northampton's colleges of art, technology and education, which formed Nene College of Higher Education in 1975; it is now the only Higher Education provider in Northamptonshire. In February 1999 Northampton changed name and became a University college. It gained a full University status and power to award research degrees in 2005.

Academic specialism

Highest achieving subjects at the University of Northampton for student satisfaction, with course quality included (National Student Survey 2008): Academic Studies in Education (90%), Psychology (90%), Accounting (92%) and History (95%). The university was awarded 'The Outstanding HEI Supporting Social Entrepreneurship Award' at the UnLtd/HEFCE ‘Dare to be Different’ national conference in June 2011. It has also been named the Midlands most 'Enterprising University of the Year' for both 2011 and 2012, in recognition of its work in social enterprise. In February 2013, the university received international recognisation for its commitment to social innovation and entrepreneurship by being designated a 'Changemaker Campus' by Ashoka U. Northampton is the first Changemaker Campus in the UK and joins a global network of 21 other Changemaker Campuses.

Location

Northampton is in the centre of England, within an hour’s travel from Birmingham, London and Oxford. The university comprises two green campuses within 6.5 km of Northampton town centre. Main line trains and motorway system are close-by, free bus service is available between campuses. The university has two sites: Park Campus at Kingsthorpe, a northern suburb, and Avenue Campus just north of the town centre and opposite a large open park known as the Racecourse. Avenue Campus was from 1924 the site of a college of technology that became part of the university.
