Overview

Rutgers University, Newark is a four-year, coeducational, public research university located in New Jersey, it is one of three regional campuses of Rutgers University. RUN was established in 1908 as a private liberal arts college. Currently, it has 7,500 undergraduate students with an additional 4,500 graduate students. 

The university offers undergraduate baccalaureate degrees, master’s degrees and doctoral degrees in a wide range of subjects. It also prides itself on the quality of research undertaken at the university. With an acceptance rate of about 63% Rutgers is slightly challenging to get in.

The university’s location is both a defining influence in its story and a distinctive strength, especially as it serves to attract talent: generations of students hungry for the opportunities afforded by gaining a first-rate higher education in a major American urban center.

The campus covers 38 acres in the University Heights neighborhood of Newark. This campus is home to all the major schools and academic facilities as well as residential, sports and leisure facilities. The campus is within easy reach of downtown Newark but retains a spacious, green feeling.

According to the U.S. News & World Report Rutgers–Newark is the most diverse national university in the United States.

Among famous Rutgers University, Newark alumni is Annette Gordon-Reed, a history professor at the university, received a Pulitzer Prize in 2009 for The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family. 

Rutgers University, Newark competes in NCAA Division III athletics, and the school mascot is the Scarlet Raider. The current chancellor of the university is Philip L. Yeagle.

The U.S. News National University Rankings 2016 placed the university the 135th. The Washington Monthly National Universities Rankings 2016 ranked it the 73rd.

The U.S. News & World Report’s 2015 edition of "Best Business Schools" rankings places Rutgers Business School–Newark and New Brunswick the 48th nationwide.

The U.S. News & World Report’s 2009 "Best Graduate Schools" rankings place Rutgers School of Criminal Justice the 7th nationwide.
