Duquesne University

Student life

Duquesne University has more than tripled in size from its early 50,6 m2 site on Boyd's Hill to its present 198,3 m2 main campus in Pittsburgh's Uptown neighborhood.

Of the 31 buildings that make up the Bluff campus, several are recent constructions or renovations, including a health sciences facility (Rangos Hall), two recording studios, two parking garages, a multipurpose recreation center (Power Center), and a theater-classroom complex (Bayer Hall).

The "Old Main" Administration Building was the first structure to be constructed on campus. The Victorian Gothic structure is still used to house the administrative offices of the University.

The university houses many student’s facilities including classrooms, research centers, meeting rooms, dining facilities, a Starbucks, a PNC branch, a recreation center, an art gallery, student activities and fitness centers and many others.

Campus which offers breathtaking views of Pittsburgh and its three rivers is a short walk from downtown and only 30 minutes from Pittsburgh International Airport.

Duquesne’s self-contained campus and the City of Pittsburgh – one of America’s most livable cities – provide countless opportunities for students to take a break from their studies and unwind.

On campus, there are always events and activities where students can relax, hang out with friends and meet new people. The Duquesne Program Council is a student-run programming body that is responsible for bringing comedians, concerts, movies, lectures and a variety of cultural and recreational programs to Duquesne's campus. The Union NiteSpot is a popular facility equipped with many forms of entertainment.

Off campus, Duquesne students are in close proximity to all of the wonderful dining, shopping and entertainment options in downtown Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas. From the symphony to the Andy Warhol museum Pittsburgh has a diverse collection of Arts & Culture venues.

Whether students want to shop, dine, gather socially, go to clubs and nightlife many opportunities await them. The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium is home to thousands of animals including 22 threatened or endangered species. Besides, students can experience the thrills of Kennywood Park, one of the oldest and most beloved amusement parks in America.

Accommodation

Freshmen and Sophomores attending Duquesne University of the Holy Spirit are required to live on campus or with their parents or guardians. On-campus housing options include coed housing, apartments for single students, fraternity/sorority housing, special housing for disabled students, wellness housing (alcohol/drug/smoke-free).

At Duquesne, about two-thirds of full-time undergraduate students live on-campus in Living Learning Centers. Much more than a dorm, these residence halls are where students get together to study, to work on service projects, and to socialize.

Career services

Whether just beginning college or approaching graduation, the Career Services Center can help students explore majors and careers, seek internships and develop professional and job search skills. The center is also here to help prepare for future success either in assisting with student’s job search or by pursuing advanced degrees.
