All applicants, whether domestic or international, must provide evidence that their English language ability meets the minimum requirements for admission.
For regular degree programmes, students need to achieve an overall score of 6.5 with at least 6 in each component of the test, a TOEFL score of 570 with TWE* score of 4.5 (paper based test), or a TOEFL score of 80, with a minimum of 20 in Reading and Writing and 18 in Speaking and Listening (internet based test).
Some programs have additional entry requirements, such as prerequisite courses or assumed knowledge. Please reference the details below and check the program website for each degree to find out more information.
Overseas high school qualifications:
Please refer to the latest international student qualifications table as a guide to the required entry scores for international qualifications. If you are applying for entry to a flexible double degree, you must meet the higher entry-score requirement of the two degrees.
Applying from another university:
If you have completed one year of study at a different university, your application will be assessed on the basis of your tertiary results.
Completing an International Qualification:
If you are an international student completing a high school or university qualification outside Australia and applying for undergraduate courses, or if you have completed your Bachelor’s degree and are applying for postgraduate study, you need to submit your application directly to ANU by uploading the Application Cover Sheet to the ANU website.
Completing High School in Australia (UAC):
If you are currently completing an Australian year 12, a New Zealand NCEA Level 3, or an International Baccalaureate (IB) in Australia, you need to apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).
ANU is located in Acton on the north side of Lake Burley Griffin, just west of the city centre.
Arriving by plane:
ANU is a 15 minute drive from Canberra Airport. An Airport Express bus to and from the city operates regularly throughout the day. Taxis are available at all times of the day.
Arriving by train or coach:
Canberra has a direct rail service from Sydney and a combined rail and bus service from Melbourne. Coaches arrive in the city centre, a short taxi journey from ANU.
