Wayne State's campus is located in the heart of Detroit's cultural center historic district, home of renowned museums, galleries and theatres. The campus is urban and features many architecturally interesting buildings. The area is also well known for its lively history of rock ‘n’ roll culture, which saw the genesis of bands like the White Stripes and the Stooges, while the first rock journal Creem was also born there.

The Cass Corridor is one of the university's most notable surroundings, with a venerable history and culture that has left an imprint on many WSU alumni. Many notable events have taken place on or near the campus as a result of its unique location. Many artists and musicians got their start here include Chuck & Joni Mitchell, Alice Cooper, The White Stripes, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and others.

Outside the classroom, Wayne State students can get involved by exploring more than 200 campus organizations or by visiting the museums, concert halls and professional sports venues of Detroit. Student athletes can join one of Wayne's many Division II Warriors sports teams, which play in various conferences.

Wayne State University hosts chapters of over two dozen fraternities and sororities, reflective of the diverse nature of the campus. These groups, through social, academic, leadership and alumni networking programs are aimed at building lifelong connections among participants and to the University.

Besides, Wayne State University is near many Detroit institutions, including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra/Orchestra Hall, Comerica Park, Ford Field, Joe Louis Arena, the Detroit Historical Museum, the Michigan Science Center, the Detroit Film Theatre, the Fox Theatre, the Fisher Theatre, the Gem Theatre and the Detroit Opera House.

The university provides housing for all students in the form of apartments and residence halls. All buildings are equipped with connection to the university computer system, wireless Internet, laundry rooms, activity rooms, and a 24-hour help desk.

With less than a five-minute walk to classes, libraries, a 24-hour computer lab, the Student Center and the Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center, living on campus offers full convenience for students.

The WSU career services office provides comprehensive career planning assistance through individual counseling, on-campus recruitment programs, skills workshops, panel presentations, networking receptions and mock interviews. 

This organization maintains an online job bank that allows students and graduates to search for employment opportunities.
