Student life

The main Delaware campus is based in a small city of Newark, Delaware. Services offered on-campus:

For all who receive admission, there are about 280 student clubs and organizations on the school’s lush campus in downtown Newark. Nearly 20 percent of students are involved in the school's large Greek system, which has about 25 fraternities and nearly 20 sororities.

When students want to leave campus, Wilmington is about 12 miles away. Philadelphia is a 45-mile drive and Baltimore is 55 miles away.

Aside from partying, the university has movie screenings every weekend for under $5 and you can shop up going down Newark Main Street.

Accommodation

The University of Delaware strives to provide a housing assignment to meet every student's needs. A variety of housing options already exist to accommodate you, so please make your housing decisions carefully. We understand that there are exceptions and circumstances where particular requests and accommodations need to be considered, and they are evaluated carefully. 

There is a range of options for living environments from single-sex halls to coed by room or floor, and rooms, suites and apartments that accommodate from one to five other roommates, and options for living by oneself. There is a dining hall within a short walk of all residence halls; and fitness centers, recreational facilities, and campus convenience markets in each neighborhood.

All residence halls feature fire alarm and suppression systems including individual room smoke detectors and sprinkler heads. In addition, all halls are locked twenty four hours a day and have security system featuring door alarms and a key card entry system restricting access to only those residing in the building.

All halls are smoke free and include public area lounges, laundry and kitchen facilities, TVs, mailboxes and quiet study spaces. Room furnishings include single beds, dressers, desks and study chairs, lighting, wastebasket, closets or wardrobes and window treatments. Kitchenette and living area furnishings are provided in on-campus apartments. 

Full-time, first year students at UD are not required to live on campus or in institutionally-controlled housing.

Career services

Delaware career center is a comprehensive resource for all  career related things. It is open to help students in their career planning process as they engage in thinking about and taking steps towards realizing career goals. The career services center offers a variety of career fairs and meetups throughout the academic year, including:

  • job & internship search;

Location

The main campus is in Newark, with satellite campuses in Dover, Wilmington, Lewes, and Georgetown.

Despite the fact that Newark is located roughly halfway between Philadelphia (72 km away) and Baltimore (89 km away) and is part of densely populated New Castle County, there is a large amount of public parkland surrounding the city.
