University of Dayton

Student life

The University of Dayton's campus is located on approximately 388 acres on the southern border of the city of Dayton. It is divided into four sections — Historic Campus, Campus West, River Campus and Arena Sports Complex. The campus includes 38 academic, research, athletic and administrative buildings, five residence halls, 18 student apartment complexes and 473 houses.

The historic campus is compact and easy to navigate; one is generally able to cross it in less than 10 minutes. Many historic buildings survive from the early years of the University; newer buildings fit in with the established architecture.

There is never a shortage of events at the University of Dayton – students can always find something to do whether it is going to a sporting event, bowling at the hangar or staying in and watching a movie with their hall. Students can also get involved in more than 200 organizations and with the campus radio and television stations.

Plenty of people go out for parties in the student neighborhood, nicknamed the ghetto on the weekends. On most weekends, there are also played newly released movies in the theater. If  a student would like to venture off campus an outdoor shopping center, The Greene, is just a 10 or 15 minute drive away. Students can shop, eat dinner, see a movie, or see the giant Christmas tree in the winter or fountain in the warmer months there.

There are also many opportunities for fun downtown as well. The Oregon District is a fun place to go on a nice afternoon. There are restaurants and shops, most of which are vintage, to explore. Down the street from the Oregon District is Riverscape Metropark. This is a beautiful place to ride bikes or walk when it's warmer. In the winter there is also an outdoor skating rink.

Accommodation

More than 90 percent of undergraduates live in campus housing, making the University of Dayton one of the most residential campuses in the country.

All first-year students are required to live in a residence hall. Sophomores are eligible to live in a residence hall or apartment and juniors, seniors and fifth-years are eligible to live in apartments or one of more than 300 University-owned houses.

The university owns a number of fully furnished apartment buildings. It also offers many living-learning communities.

Career services

Career advisors of the UD Career Center are available to assist students with career-related issues. An advisor can address student’s concerns, give needed information and resources, help develop a decision-making plan, and talk about employment options.

97% of students are employed, freelancing, or continuing their education six months after graduation in 2016.
