The University of Denver

Student life

Known as DU, the school is settled at the base of the Rocky Mountains in the state's capital city. Its 125 tree-shaded acres set in a quiet residential neighborhood.

Students can sprawl out on the lawns and take in DU's stunning architectural landscape with the Rocky Mountains as a backdrop or catch a light rail train to bustling downtown Denver, just minutes away from the campus station. Alternatively, conquer one of Colorado's 54, 14,000-foot mountain peaks. The DU campus gives its students access to it all.

DU campus is rich with beauty and tradition. University Hall, which dates from the 1890s, lives alongside buildings from the 1930s, the 1950s and early the 21st century. All are shaded by hundreds of trees.

In fact, the entire campus is designated as an arboretum. For creative entertainment students can check out musical, theatrical and innovative performances in the on-campus Newman Center. The university campus also hosts the Pen and Podium series, which brings in several famous authors and poets to speak each year.

Whether a student is looking for outdoor recreation, a bustling urban lifestyle or a hometown team to support in every major professional sports league, he or she will likely find it at the University of Denver.

Students who want to explore Denver's surrounding areas can join in on group trips through the school's Alpine Club, which organizes more than 20 outdoor excursions a year. There are more than 100 other student clubs and organizations to check out, too, including about 15 fraternities and sororities.

To explore downtown Denver, students can hop on the city's LightRail system, a network of monorail trains that stops on campus and goes to more than 40 other locations. The city is known for its revitalized urban areas, including Lower Downtown, or LoDo, a hub of shopping, dining and nightlife that is 8 miles from campus.

Denver is home to a wide range of exceptional urban amenities, including world-class museums, award-winning restaurants, trendy clubs and shopping areas, and some of the best teams in major league sports. Add to that one of the nation's largest city park systems, 90 golf courses and 650 miles of paved bike paths, and you realize why Denver is the place to be.

Accommodation

Freshmen and sophomores must live on campus, with some exceptions. Once a student fulfills DU's English proficiency conditions and is admitted to a degree program, he or she will then be eligible for on-campus housing. Once a student is admitted to an academic program, they must live on campus one year to fulfill their residency requirement. This requirement begins the Fall quarter immediately after their academic program admittance.

After student’s first year of living at DU, there are a variety of choices for living accommodations on campus. It is important to thoroughly research the accommodation one may like to live in.

Career services

The University Career Center offers career advising primarily for all UD students. Its dedicated staff offers workshops and special events, host three campus-wide career and internship fairs and provide career advising and assessments.

They offer all the university students and alumni access to a campus-wide network—including personalized advising, employer contacts, the Pioneer Careers internship and job board updated daily, internships resources, quarterly job and career fairs, alumni connections, interview assistance and much more.
