San Diego State University

Student life

Whether a student is new to campus or an Aztec for Life, SDSU offers something for everyone, from Aztec Nights festivities to a variety of student organizations and other involvement and leadership opportunities.

Many of the campus is buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Other notable buildings on campus include the Malcolm A. Love Library, The Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union Student Union, Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center and social sciences complex “Storm and Nasatir Halls”.

The university currently recognizes 19 social fraternities, 17 social sororities, and 16 business/professional/service fraternities for a total of 52 Greek organizations on campus.

The school is in the middle of San Diego, and the possibilities are endless. Being 8 miles away from the beach really opens up options of what to do. There are many snorkeling places that students can go to and places that students can learn how to surf, or take the surfing class at SDSU.

The beach is not far away and there are a plethora of activities, restaurants and places to explore. SDSU is also the only college in San Diego on the trolley system so it makes getting around much easier if a student doesn’t have a car. Staying on campus is not that boring either. It is always fun to just hang around campus with friends, go to the gym, aquaplex, track, basketball games, student union, bowling, etc.

Associated Students are always putting events on for entertainment. There are Aztec Nights the first few weeks of each semester to give students something to do. There are events throughout the semester in the student union, and there are concerts by countless artists throughout the year in the open air theatre. There are plays which can be fun to go to several times during the year, and the school does a really good job of providing fun things for its students.

Accommodation

In 1937, Quetzal Hall, the first dormitory, opened for 40 women students and was located off campus. Today, the university owns and operates housing for over 4,100 students in residence halls and student apartments, fraternity row, and language and honors housing. Approximately 63 percent of first-time freshman live in on-campus housing, while about 14 percent of the overall student body resides in on campus housing. SDSU offers themed living communities in the freshman and upperclassman housing, such as "pathways for transfers", "gender-neutral housing", and "explore San Diego".
