Entry requirements

Undergraduate

To apply for undergraduate courses the following is required:

  • A-levels or IB: subjects and grades requirements vary depending on the course or School leaving certificate equivalent to UK A-Levels or
  • School leaving certificate and successful completion of International Foundation programme.
  • IELTS from 6.5 if English is not the first language of an applicant.
  • Creative portfolio might be required for arts, design and architecture related courses.
  • BMAT or UKCAT tests will be required for medical and some biomedical courses.
  • Application should be submitted online via UCAS.

Postgraduate

To apply for postrgraduate courses the following is required:

  • A Bachelor degree from the university in the UK or approved institution of higher education outside the UK or Professional qualifications can be accepted for some courses.
  • IELTS from 6.5 if English is not the first language of an applicant.
  • If grades at Bachelor degree are not sufficient, Pre-Masters programme can be taken by International students prior to their Master studies.
  • Relevant working experience might be required for some courses.
  • GMAT can be required for some business releated courses.
  • Creative portfolio might be required for arts, design and architecture related courses.
  • Application should be submitted online on the website of the University or via UCAS Postgraduate.

How to apply

There are various methods of applying to Northumbria, depending of the level of study:


Apply Directly to the University

Using the Apply Online function on our course listing is the preferred option for International Foundation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught applications. This method allows you to upload your supporting documents at time of application and automatically receive your student application number. If you are applying for the International Foundation Programme please indicate in your personal statement which undergraduate course you wish to undertake upon completion of the foundation.


UCAS

Applications for Undergraduate courses commencing in September can also be made through UCAS. Details on how to apply can be found on the UCAS webpage.

Northumbria University is located right in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne –one of the UK’s best student cities.
