New School

Student life

The New School's campus is composed of many buildings, most of which are minutes from New York Union Square. The American Institute of Architects named the New School campus one of the greenest buildings in the United States and the largest Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold Certified urban university building 2016.

The campus also offers a variety of facilities for students: athletics and recreation, wellness and fitness center, housing and dining, libraries and research centers, clubs and associations and many others.

The university encourages students to get involved in more than 50 university-recognized student organizations. It is a rewarding experience that helps them grow — socially and in areas of leadership — while establishing lifelong friendships. Any student can also create an organization of their own.

The New School is located in one of New York’s most interesting communities, Greenwich Village. Being the intellectual and artistic center of New York, the Village has regained that cachet with the urban renewal that has turned the Flatiron District into America’s publishing capital, Soho into the liveliest fine-arts community in the country and Tribeca into a film and cultural center.

It is well equipped to tap New York’s unique resources, offering students a non-stop sampling of the city’s dazzling array of theaters, cinemas, concert halls, performing arts spaces and museums.

The university utilizes its close relationship with New York’s producers and theater owners, on and off Broadway, to secure tickets to some of the city’s most exciting theatrical events, from the first American visit of the Maly Drama Theater of St. Petersburg to Tony Award-winning productions on Broadway and private screenings of major new films.

Accommodation

Choosing to live in student housing students can expect to encounter new challenges, meet new friends, and basically have a good time while in college. And New School on-campus student housing offers even more benefits. On-campus housing provides secure and supportive environments that can ease the transition from home to college.

Through shared experiences and activities students discover and appreciate differences, learn to live more independently and experience personal growth at an important time in their lives.

Each of 5 residences is unique and offers something for everyone. They are co-ed and include a lounge, an art studio, a music practice room, a kitchen and washers and dryers along with unique features that make the space distinctive.
