Louisiana State University-Baton Rouge

The current LSU main campus was built in 1926. It consists of more than 250 buildings constructed in the style of Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio and occupies a 650-acre (2.6 km²) plateau on the banks of the Mississippi River.

The current LSU campus is located on 2,000 acres (8.1 km²) just south of downtown Baton Rouge. A majority of the university's 250 buildings most of which were built between 1925 and 1940, occupy a 650-acre (2.6 km²) plateau on the banks of the Mississippi River.

The campus is known for the 1,200 live oak trees that shade the ground of the university. Fifty-seven buildings on the LSU campus are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the campus is protected by the State Capital Historic District Legislation. 

The LSU Campus Mounds which are part of a larger mound group spread throughout the state are located near the northwestern corner of the campus and were built an estimated 5,000 years ago.

Outside the classroom, LSU students can explore more than 350 student organizations or check out the unique free facilities nearby including the 14-acre Hilltop Arboretum or the Louisiana Museum of Natural History. 

Sports fans can visit the Andonie Museum, which is also free and all about the history of LSU athletics. Student athletes can play at the recreational level or with the LSU Tigers varsity teams which compete in the NCAA Division I Southeastern Conference.

Living on campus gives students total access to all the LSU community has to offer right at their doorstep – academics, tradition, passion, involvement, culture, and more. More than 21 residence halls – not dorms – and 2 apartment complexes on campus offer students modern living spaces to make campus their home. 

Students can relax on outside patios, meet people in the lobby, make mac and cheese in their hall’s kitchen and cram for an exam in the numerous study rooms. Students can also access the computer lab 24/7 and print for free – they just need to bring their own paper. All rooms have free-standing, movable furniture so students can put their personal touch on the space. And all the rooms are air-conditioned.

Residential Life’s residence halls are organized as residential colleges, the Honors House, themed housing and traditional halls. Upper-class student apartments and family and graduate student housing options are offered as well. With so many options, there is something for everyone.

Olinde Career Center assists students and alumni in choosing careers, obtaining career-related work experiences as students, developing job search skills, and securing employment or admission to graduate or professional school. 

The organization is responsible for organizing career events and helping students answering their questions. It helps with career decision-making process, experiential education and job search and other career related points.
