Illinois Institute of Technology

Student life

Illinois Institute of Technology has five campuses in the Chicago area. A portion of the 120-acre main campus, identified as the Illinois Institute of Technology Academic Campus, was entered onto the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

The complete 120-acre campus, also known as the Mies Campus, was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, universally considered one of the 20th century's most influential architects and the director of the architecture program at Illinois Tech from 1938 to 1958. In 1976, the American Institute of Architects recognized the Illinois Tech main campus, centered at the 33rd and State Streets in Chicago, as one of the 200 most significant works of architecture in the United States.

The campus offers a variety of opportunities and services for students: sports options, bookstores, career services, copy and postal service, parking, wellness centers and gym, dining options and many others.

For undergrads, there are more than 100 clubs and organizations to join, including TechNews, the student newspaper, religious groups, academic groups, and student activity groups.

The Illinois Institute of Technology Main Campus also has an established Greek System, which consists of 6 fraternities and 3 sororities. Greek organizations have been an important part of the Illinois Tech educational experience campus for more than 100 years—and joining a fraternity or sorority remains a popular option for both men and women. Membership provides opportunities for leadership development, scholastic achievement and lifelong friendships.

Students in Chicago have access to a thriving metropolis with a rich cultural history. As one of the largest cities in the world, Chicago is a fantastic place for entertainment and culture of all kinds, from sporting events to art museums and everything in between!

Accommodation

The Office of Residence and Greek Life at the Illinois Institute of Technology operates student and conference housing. Residence and Greek Life is organized with focus on occupancy, residential education, operations, student conduct, and housing facilities.

There are nine residence halls and two apartment buildings in which 1600 students can make their "home away from home" while they pursue their education. The residence halls offer a focused and dynamic living and learning environment.

Freshmen are required to live on campus, with some exceptions, and both undergraduate and graduate housing is available through the university.

The residence halls offer a focused and dynamic living learning environment. Living on campus also has additional benefits such as close proximity to classes, the McCormick Tribune Campus Center, Keating Gym, and access to a wide variety of events or programs hosted at various buildings across campus.

Each residence floor has a resident adviser who organizes social and academic programming, follows up with students regarding academic concerns, enforces residence hall policies, and serves as a general resource for residents. Full-time Residence and Greek Life staff are available on call 24/7.

Career services

93% of students are employed, freelancing, or continuing their education after graduation in 2016.

The Student Employment Office (SEO) oversees on-campus jobs at Illinois Tech. On-campus jobs teach students valuable and interdisciplinary skills for their future career.

Besides, university’s career center provides individual career counseling, career planning advice, interviewing techniques, resume and cover letter writing assistance, as well as help with career transitions.
