Harbin Institute of Technology

HIT structure includes 3 campuses:

• Harbin Main Campus: located in the heavy industrial base area of China, specializes in engineering and especially defense, aerospace, mechanical, civil, environmental, and material engineering.
• Weihai Campus: based in the national high-tech park of China, offers courses in science and technology and especially marine science, chemistry, biotechnology, automotive, software, computer, and management.
• Shenzhen Graduate School: situated in the University Town of Shenzhen in collaboration with Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Hong Kong universities for research, applications and production.

The institute's main building is a smaller version of the main building of the Lomonosov Moscow State University with the majority of the buildings constructed during the time of Sino-Soviet friendship from 1949 to 1959 when the Soviets were actively involved in the development of Northeast China.

In order to promote culture exchange and enrich students’ learning experience, International Student Center organizes variety of students’ activities. In the spring semester: opening ceremony, city tour, visiting art school, spring outgoing, sports meeting, Chinese culture week, etc. In the fall semester: watching Beijing Opera, cook Chinese cuisine, visiting ice and snow world, etc.

Besides, being the Ice City of China and a popular winter destination, Harbin is famous for its very cold winters, ice and snow sculptures and exotic architecture. Every year from December to January of the next year is the annual Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival, and many parts of the city are turned into a wonderland of snow. Due to Russian and European influences, there are also many western-style buildings.

HIT’s Number One Apartment is the largest dormitory in Asia, housing over 4,000 students. International students’ dormitory has a special hotel-style with a European styled bathroom. One room accommodates 2-4 persons. The other facilities include:

• 24-hour hot-water & electricity
• Tailor shop, laundry, shower
• Cable TV & Internet
• Library, gymnasium, bank.

Students also pay a compulsory insurance fee: 400/term and 800/year.

The Career Development Department of Harbin Institute of Technology provides service for the growth and success of students, and for the career planning and career development. It is responsible for managing and updating jobs database and it gives career counselling for students. Career Counselors are available to assist students in achieving their academic and career goals. HIT Career Development Department also offers workshops on a variety of career development topics.
