The Ecole Normale Supérieure, (ENS), colloquially called “Normale Sup’” has a long and distinguished history as a centre of elite higher education teaching and research in both Humanities and Sciences.


Founded in 1794, during the French Revolution, the School now offers a very wide range of degrees across many disciplines.


A number of Nobel Prize laureates are the School’s alumni such as Jean Paul Sartre, the famous philosopher and writer, or Louis Pasteur - the French microbiologist that discovered the existence of germs and after which the process of “pasteurisation” was named.

Location

The ENS is situated in the heart of Paris in the vibrant Quartier Latin surrounded by other top universities, including the Sorbonne. The River Seine as well as parks and cultural locations are at a short walk’s distance. The School is well served by the Metro (inner city underground) and RER (the rapid transit system), which connects Paris to its Southern suburbs, where two of its campuses are located.
