Clemson University in South Carolina is a public land-grant and sea-grant research university with a proud military tradition. Founded in the wake of the American Civil War, Clemson began as an all-male military school before opening as Clemson Agricultural College in 1893. It started to accept women in 1955. The university was built on the Fort Hill plantation bequeathed by its founder Thomas Green Clemson, who had intended the institution to teach scientific agriculture and mechanical arts.

A top-25 public university with a reputation for excellence that’s known worldwide, Clemson University leads the way in providing a hands-on education — in the lab, in the arts and in the field. With more than 80 undergraduate majors and 110 graduate degree programs, there are plenty of opportunities and career paths to choose from. Clemson is home to some of the nation’s most exceptional professors, and their  internationally recognized faculty attracts some of the highest-achieving college students.

The university practices a Faculty in Residence program, where both faculty and staff live on campus in shared residence halls, to encourage personal interactions outside of the classroom. While its Creative Inquiry Program enables undergraduates to participate in research alongside faculty and graduate students. The university’s facilities include a trading room, social media listening centre, organic farm, and a campus shop selling ice cream which has been made by students since the 1920s.

Clemson is highly ranked in United States and worldwide. In its 2016 ranking U.S. News National University Rankings placed the university the 66th. Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) ranked Clemson the 401st.
