Bath Spa University

Student life

The UNESCO world heritage city of Bath is well- known as being one of the world’s most beautiful cities in England and is ranked as one of the safest places to study in the UK. It boasts stunning architectural and historical sites such as the Roman Baths and the Royal Crescent. With its vibrant community, rich culture, and mix of coffee bars, restaurants and theatres, there is no surprise that Bath is home to over 25,000 students. Bath Spa University students play at big part in the festivals and community life including the International Music festival, the Bath Film Festival and the Bath Literature Festival.

Investing in the future is a key priority to Bath Spa and 2015 saw the opening of a leaning Commons at the Newton Park campus. This included teaching rooms, digital spaces, a café, and bookable group working rooms as well as an outdoor amphitheatre! It also has the best TV studios in Southwest England rivalling the facilities of the BBC .

The main Students' Union facilities are at the Newton Park campus, although the Union maintains a presence in all campuses. The Main union building runs a bar, café, gym and shop, and hosts regular events throughout the academic year. There are 20 sports societies, 40 interest societies and 10 sports clubs run by the union, many of which compete in the BUCS. The sports facilities include rugby and football pitches at the top of the campus, as well as a netball court and changing facilities inside the walled garden adjacent to the union building. The walled garden itself is also a social space, featuring BBQs, games tables, seating and tables, a small pond, greenhouses and small allotment style areas. The union is in charge of organising the Freshers events, as well as the Winter and Summer balls. It also has facilities to run health campaigns and give academic advice to students, volunteering and skill development opportunities, travel opportunities, and it liaises directly with the University and organisations nationally and in the local area to campaign about and discuss issues that affect students. The union also has its own student card called Student Zest, founded by students in 2012 which offers discounts on goods and services offered in over 100 local businesses.

Accommodation

If you’re studying at Newton Park and want to live on campus, we’ve got a good variety of accommodation on offer in the Newton Park halls.
If you’re going to be based at Sion Hill, Bankside House is exclusively for art and design students. Bankside is short walk from Sion Hill campus and Bath city centre.
Most of the halls are conveniently located on campus, some of them are off-site but closer to the city centre. Around 85% of all the first year undergraduates are guaranteed to get a high-standard hall on campus. The remained students are normally choosing to take a private housing, specifically reserved for students (all accredited).

Career services

The University's Job Shop helps all students find jobs in the local area, including jobs available on campus. The Job Shop is a free service to all students. The University has a huge range of vacancies, updated daily. Since Bath is one of the most touristic cities in the UK, the location opens various opportunities within it.
