The university has the Jerry Herman Ring Theatre - a campus theater for students’ plays and musicals.
The Coral Gables campus is served by the Miami Metrorail at the University Station. The Metro connects UM to Downtown Miami, Brickell, Coconut Grove and other Miami neighborhoods. The UM campus is about a 15-minute train ride from Downtown and Brickell. The Hurry Canes shuttle bus service operates two routes on campus (as well as to the University Station) and weekend routes to various off-campus stores and facilities during the school year. There is also a lake called Lake Osceola at the center of campus. It contains a large fountain which is as a landmark to many university students.
University of Miami offers a number of student services including nonremedial tutoring, women's center, placement service, day care, health service, health insurance. University of Miami also offers campus safety and security services like 24-hour foot and vehicle patrols, late night transport, 24-hour emergency telephones, lighted pathways, student patrols, controlled dormitory access. 39 percent of University of Miami students have cars on campus.
More than 2,400 students on campus are involved in more than 30 fraternities and sororities. Students can also choose more than 250 clubs and organizations to join. Freshmen are not required to live on campus, but many opt to live in the school’s five residential colleges. The communities modeled after housing at England’s Oxford and Cambridge universities combine living and learning with group meals, poetry readings, sports and more. For students who do not live in university housing the Commuter Assistant Program pairs freshmen with an on-campus representative to help ease the transition into college.
The Coral Gables campus houses 4,500 enrolled students. This group is disproportionately freshmen (84% of new freshmen live on campus compared with 43% of all degree undergraduates). UM's on campus housing consists of five residential colleges and one apartment-style housing area available only to undergraduate degree seeking students. The residential colleges are divided into two dormitory-style residence halls and three suite-style residence halls.
In addition to residential colleges, Miami also has an area called the University Village which consists of seven buildings with apartment-style annual contract housing, fully furnished with kitchen facilities.
UM organizes a lot of career events like coaches and webinars, internships and career fairs. Also, the UM Alumni Association provides its alumni with a list of recommended career coaches. Career coaches teach students how to market themself and explore career options, taking into consideration their background, skills and interests. Career coaching is a fee-based service for alumni.

UM’s main campus in Coral Gables has 0.97 km2 and over 5.7 million square feet of buildings, located at the south of Miami. Most of the University of Miami's academic programs are located on the main campus in Coral Gables which houses seven schools and two colleges including the University of Miami School of Law.
