Year 1: Students take modules in: whole organism biology; genetics and cell biology; biochemistry; principles of ecology; plant and cell physiology; and genetics with plant specialisms; students can also choose optional modules in the areas of ecology and agriculture. Year 2: Core modules studied in the 2nd year include: introductory plant pathology; plant and cell physiology; plant biotechnology; plant developmental genetics and plant responses to abiotic stress; in addition to optional modules in ecology or agriculture, students take a techniques-based module to provide the practical skills for the final-year project. Year 3: Students undertake a research project in plant science which may be either laboratory or field-based; students choose from optional modules including: plant genetic manipulation; plant cell signalling; plants and their light environment; plant microbe interactions; molecular plant pathology; plant disease control; flowers and biotechnology; and resource capture by plants.
