The BA Politics degree encourages you to think about the processes of governance and democracy, the causes of war, the impact of the media and the effects of globalisation by studying the political behaviour of those who hold power. Studying politics trains you in skills that are important to any number of future careers; you learn how to argue persuasively, to analyse carefully and to make well-informed decisions.

During your studies you will look at important ideas in politics: liberal democracy, the idea of freedom, and the capitalist economy, to take just a few. You will also have the chance to examine how politics works in other countries -- from the US to the Asia-Pacific, taking in Western Europe and the Middle East along the way. The degree programme is flexible enough to let you concentrate on particular aspects of politics that interest you. That might take you into theoretical debates about the nature of the international system -- or might instead lead you into detailed practical study of EU policies.
