The programme enables students to study a wide variety of artistic, technical and then specialist contexts commencing with an introductory and very practically based series of modules that deal with production via drawing, painting, printmaking, lens/time-based media and illustration; the curriculum offered combines aspects of fine art and graphic design programmes; the modules shared with fine art are those which develop skills in various image making processes, the contextual studies, and those concerned with developing a personal methodology for research and development of ideas within the discipline; areas of study include: art and design; contextual studies; drawing practice; introduction to printmaking; computing for graphic designers; introduction to illustration; introduction to painting; introduction to lens and time based media; illustration projects; sequential illustration; creative typography; art and design illustration; illustration final major project; design communication and self marketing.
