Students will also study Network security (including encryption, authentication and relevant standards), network protocols and technology, TCP/IP architectures, wireless communications, application layer functionality, network design and management (including detailed commercial LAN and WAN designs), administration and management (using current software tools). Students will also learn Internet development and how enterprise-strength web sites that interact with databases are built, using specific tools such as ColdFusion and php to develop your own Internet sites. The course is designed to take students with an HND or DipHE in Computing or a related area, to continue their studies for a further two years in Computing and Networks. A bridging module is available at Year three to ensure that direct entry students have skills in appropriate areas. Additionally there is a route for Year 1 students to enrol on this course, to study a general computing first year and then focus on the Computer Networking and Internet Technology in year 2. This allows students to participate fully in the degree and honours years of this course. In the early years there is flexibility built into the course that allows students to change courses if they feel another course is more appropriate to their learning desires. Students from this course find work in a variety of positions in industry or business. The degree is heavily focussed on industry requirements so in addition to the technical skills in Computing & Networking you will work individually and in teams to hone skills of team working, project management, communications and self motivated learning. When you graduate you are well equipped to develop the software and network systems which industry is looking for.
