The course equips students with specialist expertise in technical design and management; these skills make a key contribution to the output of architectural design teams in shaping the future of existing buildings and creating new environments; the integration of formal lectures in building technology and management with practical studio work develops a critical awareness of the application of appropriate technologies to the process of design and construction within the built environment; information technology cased information and computer-aided design graphic modelling skills combine with cross discipline working to develop solutions which are technically innovative while respecting the inherent qualities of local and global environments; in the spring semester of year 3 students have the opportunity to undertake a work placement offering a wealth of professional experience; alternatively, students may wish to study abroad at 1 of the partner institutions, including those in Denmark, the Netherlands or Spain; year 4 of the course combines major studio-based projects with a dissertation and the opportunity to develop formative skills in specialist areas such as built heritage conservation and component design.
