Education studies Year 1: The student studies: education and the learning society; learning and the nature of knowledge; the student also takes additional supporting units in the combined Honours programme. Year 2: the student studies: policy, practice and the professional; teaching and learning; the student is able to select additional options from a range which may include: investigating education; students into schools mentoring. Year 3: this year offers the student a range of options which may include: contemporary issues in education; international perspectives on education; forgotten minorities; social justice, education and identity; independent study in an education topic. European studies Year 1: The student studies an introduction to European politics, and either Europe in turmoil 1900-1939, or European culture and society. Years 2 and 3: the student is offered a wide range of options from the areas of European politics, history, society and culture; the student also has the opportunity to study a European language throughout the 3 years of the programme; year 2 options may include: government and politics of the European Union; France 1914-68; Russian and Soviet history; Europe, Nazism and war; politics in Northern Ireland; year 3 options may include: policies and policy-making in the European Union; public policy analysis; the Holocaust; education policy; the Weimar Republic; post-communist Russia; the cold war 1945-91.
