Education studies Year 1: The student studies: education and the learning society; learning and the nature of knowledge; the student also takes additional supporting units in the combined Honours programme. Year 2: the student studies: policy, practice and the professional; teaching and learning; the student is able to select additional options from a range which may include: investigating education; students into schools mentoring. Year 3: this year offers the student a range of options which may include: contemporary issues in education; international perspectives on education; forgotten minorities; social justice, education and identity; independent study in an education topic. European film Year 1: The student is introduced to the study of films as a mirror of the culture and society of a country; the student familiarise themselves with the fundamental principles and instruments of film analysis; the student studies an introduction to European film and film theory, plus another unit typically chosen from amongst French, Spanish or Italian Cinema. Years 2 and 3: in year 2 the student studies units from a range which may include: the French new wave; German film and popular culture; Italian cinema: a window on society; conflict and revolution in Spanish film and fiction; in years 2 and 3 the student also chooses from a range of options looking at specific issues, such as: film and popular culture; film noir; representations of gender.
