This degree programme prepares the student for work in junior schools (Key Stage 2) and secondary schools (Key Stage 3); the student is able to act as a generalist or a specialist teacher of physical education, or a combination of both; by having a unique insight into the challenges of progression and continuity that exists between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3, the student is well equipped to act as a link teacher able to liaise with and build relationships between secondary schools and feeder primary schools; the student is also in a position to become a school sport coordinator, a post created through Physical Education School Sport and Club Links (PESSCL) funding, which links the delivery of physical education and school sport in both primary and secondary phases; alongside students from the other specialist primary and secondary education routes, the student studies general teaching techniques and issues, extending their subject knowledge and teaching techniques in the primary core subjects of English, mathematics and science and the primary foundation subjects; satisfactory completion of assessment confers Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
