This is a major/minor scheme which enables the student to combine the 2 subjects; the student studies equal amounts from their 2 subjects in their 1st year; in the 2nd and 3rd years, 3 courses are selected from the major subject and 1 from the minor; early childhood studies focuses on young children aged 0-8 years and their families; the student will explore the range of diverse contexts in which young children develop and learn in their crucial early years, considered from psychological, educational, health, historical, sociological, cultural and philosophical viewpoint; policy and practice will be explored and analysed as an integral part of the programme; geography introduces the student to the major changes in the contemporary world and to diversity of places, cultures and environments; it provides stimulating fieldwork experiences in various settings; the course develops the student’s understanding of the interrelationships between societies and environments and means that they can explore policy relating to such issues as environmental management, social welfare and economic development; the student is taught to collect, process and analyse physical and social data and apply a range of statistical, graphical and cartographical skills to the analysis of geographical information.
