This course develops high calibre engineers and designers who are able to function both as a technical designer and as a leader/manager of other engineers in industries such as aerospace, marine, automotive, wind energy, oil and gas, and other similar high-tech industries; the main emphasis of the course is in studying solid state mechanics, smart technology and their integration; an option unit in the final year together with an aligned individual project allow general advanced engineering skills to be developed or allow for a specialism in either marine, aerospace or medical engineering discipline; the business innovation element of the course ensures that, as well as being able to function as an engineer/designer, the graduate has the skills and vision to embrace technological innovation and integrate it within their industry; this course capitalises on the use of the latest engineering simulation systems and technologies to minimise the need for extensive use of laboratories and expensive equipment.
