The campus possesses a range of unique cultural and historical attractions, where preservation and progress coexist; the University’s original 1845 buildings designed by Sir Thomas Deane and Benjamin Woodworth are considered to be of international architectural significance. 

UCC’s setting in beautiful grounds which include the historic Main Quadrangle, impressive gardens and riverside walks all provide a rich, varied and inspiring experience to student and visitor alike.

University College Cork has over 80 active societies and 50 different sports clubs. There are academic, charitable, creative, gaming/role-playing, political, religious, and social societies and clubs incorporating field sports, martial arts, watersports as well outdoor and indoor team and individual sports. UCC clubs are sponsored by Bank of Ireland, with the UCC Skull and Crossbones as the mascot for all UCC sports teams.

There is a huge variety of sporting choices for students to get involved in. Whether it is competitive or recreational, participation in sporting activities is a great way to immerse yourself in the college scene, as well as a fun way to keep fit and healthy.

Moreover, Cork has the cosmopolitan culture and energy of a capital city, with none of the disadvantages. In Cork students find all the facilities expected in a modern European city, and yet everyone can still easily walk down its main street, bumping into friends and acquaintances along the way.

The city is the main commercial and banking center in the south of Ireland. It is also a thriving seaport and home to a wealth of modern industries. In Cork city, everything you may need is within easy reach: cafés, restaurants, nightlife, cinemas, theatre, music venues, sports facilities and great shopping are all well catered for. UCC’s campus is an easy ten-minute walk from Patrick Street in the heart of the city center.

Accommodation

Students attending UCC occupy a variety of accommodation types, with some opting to live with family while others live in rented accommodation. UCC's campus accommodation company manages more than 1000 beds in several apartment complexes within 1.5 km of the UCC main campus, and offer a search service to students looking for private accommodation near UCC.

Students are placed in UCC campus accommodation, which is within ten minutes’ walk of the main campus. Each flat accommodates three to five students in single study bedrooms and is equipped with basic cooking facilities shared living area, TV, and internet access.

The campus is located a mere ten minutes’ walk from the heart of a large Cork city, a former European Capital of Culture.
