Trinity College Dublin

Student life

Trinity College retains a tranquil collegiate atmosphere despite its location in the center of a capital city (and despite its being one of the most significant tourist attractions in Dublin). This is, in large part, due to the compact design of the college, which main buildings look inwards and are arranged in large quadrangles (called squares), and the existence of only a few public entrances.

The main college grounds are approximately 47 acres, including the Trinity College Enterprise Centre nearby, and buildings account for around 200,000 m², ranging from works of older architecture to more modern buildings.

The main entrance to the college is on the College Green, and its grounds are bounded by Nassau and Pearse Streets. The college is bisected by College Park which has a cricket and rugby pitch.

The university is also famous for its library, which is the largest library in Ireland and dates back to the university’s founding year. It is home to over six million printed volumes as well as a wide collection of journals, manuscripts, maps, music and the historic Book of Kells, a ninth century gospel manuscript presented to the university in the 1660s.

With over 100 college societies and 50 sports clubs, there is no lack of extra-curricular entertainment for students of the university. This is not to mention the wider range of delights that the city of Dublin has to offer. These include the Guinness brewery, Dublin’s world-famous pubs and other cultural aspects of the city such as the Abbey Theatre, Phoenix Park and the River Liffey.

Accommodation

There are a large number of rooms available for non-EU full degree students at the university residence at Trinity Hall. Regrettably, there are limited rooms available for Visiting and Erasmus students. After their first year, all students (international and domestic) are considered equally when applying for accommodation.

Trinity Hall is a large, friendly complex with its own Junior Common Room, which organizes many social activities and outings. Trinity Hall accommodates over 1,000 students in shared single or twin apartments with several different room types. This well-equipped residence is 4 kms from the city center with good public transport connections by LUAS (tram) and bus.

Trinity Hall accommodation includes single and double bedrooms with shared kitchens and common spaces. Beds are 190cm-length singles (standard length twin). Kitchens come equipped with a stove, oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster and electric kettle.

Career services
