How to apply

  • Traditional Undergraduate Programs in Japanese. There are two processes for admission to the traditional undergraduate program of the University of Tokyo. One is for students who graduated from high schools in Japan (General Screening Test) and the other is for students who graduated from high schools abroad (Special Screening Tests). As the majority of the courses in the traditional undergraduate programs are taught in Japanese, a high level of proficiency in Japanese is required and the information for both admissions processes is available only in Japanese.

  • The University of Tokyo's Programs in English at Komaba (PEAK) seeks to admit a select number of students who exhibit the potential for intellectual growth and leadership, and can contribute to the diversification of the campus with their cultural and educational backgrounds, in line with the university's initiative to establish a global campus and nurture global leaders. Applicants must choose one of the two streams of the PEAK programs (Japan in East Asia or Environmental Sciences) when applying and will be evaluated in the appropriate stream. Application Period lasts from the end of October till the beginning of December. Applicants will initially be assessed on their educational achievements and the content of their application essay. Reviewers will also take into consideration the evaluation letters and other materials submitted by the applicant. Selected applicants will be invited to attend an interview.

  • The Global Science Course (GSC) was established to foster future leaders in an international environment. Its aim is also to create an all-English learning hub in fundamental sciences for both Japanese and international undergraduate students. The GSC curriculum is designed to offer interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary subjects in addition to fundamental subjects based on well-established disciplines so that students can acquire wide perspectives, enabling them to forge the next frontiers in fundamental sciences. Applicants are encouraged to utilize the Global Science Course (GSC) online application system to complete their application. The system allows applicants to fill out the application form, submit their personal statement, upload required documents, request for evaluation forms and pay for the application fee.
