SJTU includes five beautiful campuses, Xuhui, Minhang, Luwan, Qibao, and Fahua, taking up an area of about 3,225,833 m2.

The previous main campus was located in Xujiahui, in the Xuhui District of Shanghai, formerly a largely Catholic area and a site of several educational institutions. Most buildings on campus were influenced by American architecture. The construction of the campus never came to an end in the past century. 

Student associations of SJTU offer a wide variety of unique and popular activities, and play an important role in the students' extracurricular life as a supplement for curricular programs and an important part of SJTU's campus culture. There are now 168 student associations which can be classified into five main categories: politics and economics, volunteer and charity, academics and science, culture and art, and sports and fitness. 

There are 8 dormitory buildings for international student on Minhang and Xuhui Campus. Both Xuhui and Minhang Campus provide students accommodation. 

The equipments and facilities in dormitory vary from room types, buildings and campus, however, air-conditioner, telephone, cable television, self-laundry and internet access service are provided in all dorm rooms and buildings. Moreover, the basic furniture such like bed, desk, chair, wardrobe and bed textiles such like bed linen, pillow, quilt and mattress are also offered for free use. Lianxing Building, Asian Youth Center (Tao Li Yuan) on Xuhui Campus and No. 8, 9, 10 Dorm Building are equipped with individual bathrooms. No.9 Dorm Building on Xuhui Campus and No.12, 51 Dorm Building on Minhang Campus are equipped with shared bathrooms. Moreover, 24-hour hot water is provided in all bathrooms in dorm building.

Homestay is available near Minhang Campus, if a student wants to experience local lifestyle. The apartment rent differs at both Minhang and Xuhui Campus. Basically, it costs at least 17 000 RUB rep month to rent a studio near Minhang campus and much more expensive near Xuhui Campus.

SJTU has the Career Center, which is an organization that is dedicated to helping students find internships and full-time employment based on their backgrounds and interests. The organization improves its services to help match students and companies effectively. The Career Center serves students and employers, and works to strengthen cooperation between the University and enterprises, providing a platform for students to develop their career.
