Located on the banks of the River Corrib, NUI Galway offers an attractive setting within which to work. The University is on Galway city’s doorstep, within easy reach of all facilities, shopping and social life. Located on the west coast of Ireland, the city is a gateway to the rural landscape of Connemara and Ireland’s Atlantic coast. Galway is known as Ireland’s cultural capital, and the University plays a central role in the city’s arts, theatre and heritage scene.

Galway city is well connected nationally and internationally, within easy access to three international airports, and Ireland’s rail and motorway network. The city is a global hub for industry and innovation, in particular for the biomedicine industry. 

The University is a family-friendly workplace, with a crèche on campus for staff use. A compact and friendly city, it is an ideal place to combine career development with a high quality of life.

The university also offers:

  • More than 30 sports clubs and teams on campus, including playing fields and sports facilities;
  • An on-campus medical center, restaurant and bookstore;
  • Quick access to the Galway city center and all of its music, pubs and restaurants;

Accommodation

There are 8 Student Residences, one of which is on Campus (Corrib Village). All others are within easy reach of the University. All student residences are privately managed but the NUI Galway Accommodation Office provides help and advice to students searching for a room.

Student residences begin taking bookings in February for the following academic year. Housing has kitchens available for student use.

Career services

Career Development Centre aims to provide students of NUI Galway with a quality career guidance and information service focused on facilitating and empowering students to manage their own career development and make effective career transitions.

The organization holds a large number of events each semester and has many graduate employers on campus. Students and recent graduates can use Careers Connect to view events, job, internship and funding opportunities and  to book an appointment with one of its team.

National University of Ireland Galway is located in Ireland's westerly city of Galway, which is a major Irish city located on Ireland’s west coast, just 10 minute walk north from Galway’s city center.

The No.4 bus from Galway center serves the university at frequent intervals throughout the day. Galway has a well-serviced train station and is just 2.5 hours from Dublin.

Galway is a short one-hour drive from Shannon Airport, Ireland’s third busiest airport. Shannon Airport operates regular flights to and from the UK, Europe and the USA.
