- Glyndwr University formed in July 2008 when the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education (NEWI) gained university status.
- The university traces its roots to 1887 when the Wrexham School of Science and Arts was formed from miners' Whisky Money, a tax on beer and spirits.
- Higher education followed in 1892 and three colleges formed NEWI in 1975, before Glyndwr University was created.
The North Wales School of Art and Design has an international reputation for innovation and excellence. Its students have won prestigious D&AD awards and the Macmillan book prize.
