Student life

Student life at TU Delft is organized around numerous student societies and corporations. They can be generally categorized into professional societies, social societies and sport societies. Apart from professional student societies, students organize themselves only for the purpose of enriching their social life. Delft has many entertaining clubs and pubs, each with its own special atmosphere. It won’t take long before you find one that you like. Some restaurants and pubs occasionally have live music. In summer, sitting outside and having a drink with friends is a favorite occupation. The Beestenmarkt is a small square in the city center surrounded by outdoor cafés, bars and restaurants. When the weather is good, it is a popular place. Obviously The Hague and especially Rotterdam are good destinations for a night out.

The Campus

Initially, all of the university buildings were located in the historic city center of Delft. This changed in the second half of the 20th century with relocations to a separate university neighborhood. The last university building in the historic center of Delft was the university library, which was relocated to a new building in 1997. The new park replaced the main access road and redirected car traffic around the campus, making the newly created park a safer place for bicycles and pedestrians. Besides, there are three museums and Botanical Garden on its territory.

Accommodation

TU Delft has partnered with different housing agencies in the greater Delft region to offer incoming international students help in finding accommodation. Exchange students are be offered 1 semester-contracts, with a maximum of one semester’s extension only. Cancellations during the contract period are not allowed. All rooms are within a 30-minute distance to campus, by bike and/or public transport. Both private and shared student units are available.

Career services

TU Delft Career Centre works with students to help them build their employability and career management skills by providing a range of careers workshops, programs and resources. In addition, we work closely with employers, professional organizations and alumni to create positive connections between them, the University and students. Delft offers a wide range of workshops and activities to enhance students’ skills and help them find the perfect new course, job or internship.

Location

Delft is a compact, historic town between Rotterdam and The Hague in the province of Zuid-Holland. It forms part of the Randstad, the urban agglomeration in the west of the Netherlands and is the nation’s main educational and research centre. Today, Delft ranks as a high-tech location due to the abundance of technology-based institutions and organisations close to and often involved with the university.

Delft has a reputation for being a friendly city; bars and terraces along the canals and on the city squares, quirky shops, affordable restaurants and great cinemas. It is easy to find your way around as everything is close together. Delft is bursting with activity from spring right through to autumn, including music festivals and street theatre.
