Baylor University in Waco, Texas, is one of the largest Baptist universities in the world, and a nationally ranked liberal arts institution. Chartered in 1845 by the Republic of Texas, Baylor is the oldest, continually operating university in the state.

The university community at Baylor is bound together tightly by religion, and a large proportion of the student body is particularly active in the field of volunteering. 

Baylor offers a dynamic and invigorating campus life. From concerts to Big 12 athletics to almost 300 student organizations, the Baylor campus is alive with students throughout the year.

Baylor University faculty and students are active in research. The university partners with the city of Waco in some of its research initiatives, including the Center for Reservoir and Aquatic Systems Research and the Waco Mammoth Site.

Notable alumni include Michael Johnson - a retired American sprinter who won four Olympic gold medals and eight World Championships gold medals, Thomas W. Horton – CEO of AMR Corporation/American Airlines, and Willie Nelson – country music star and winner of six Grammys.

The university is located on the banks of the Brazos River next to I-35, between the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and Austin. Waco, which is 100 miles from Dallas and Austin, is a small city with outdoor recreation opportunities like hiking and mountain biking.
