The programme mirrors how secondary school teachers divide their time between their specialist subject and the wider work of their school; therefore concentrate on students specialism and general professional studies;in college students take a subject specialist programme in which they follow a course of study that covers all of the subject aspects they need to teach the subject in school; school subject knowledge as required by the National Curriculum and, for religious education; agreed syllabuses; specific subject teaching skills; production and collection of resources for teaching; acquiring skills for long, medium and short-term planning for teaching; classroom management and organisation; becoming familiar with techniques for assessment and examination at both school level and nationally accredited examinations such as GCSE and GNVQ; the broader concerns of teachers are introduced in college under the heading of general professional studies; educational legislation; effective teaching; learning theories; communication and classroom management personal; social and moral education assessment and examinations. Assessement methods Operates a continuous assessment procedure for all elements of the programme; both teachers and college tutors contribute to this process and an external examiner provides quality assurance through objective overview of all the work of the students as trainee teachers.
