Writtle College, BA (Hons), Interior Architecture
Level 1: All students follow a common programme of study that covers the principles of spatial design/visual communication and the history of interior design/architecture; it also deals with the fundamentals of building appraisal and the practice of design through the studio project. Level 2: Students are introduced to ideas of greater complexity; studio projects cover a wider range of commercial and social scenarios; retail, exhibition, leisure and workplace design; more emphasis is placed on developing an integrated understanding of design through historical, theoretical and practical study and students are introduced to aspects of professional practice and management; students elect to follow a named degree pathway in either interior design or interior architecture: typically, a student opting for interior architecture work with a building and its site as an integrated whole; potentially this involves structural interventions to the interior and exterior of the building; hence the student is required to understand building construction and detailing to an appropriate level.
