Students study a series of modules throughout the course that focus on a range of general areas associated with building studies that include: Environmental studies; health and safety; quality assurance; management techniques; in addition the technical and design fundamentals generic to the building industry are covered such as: building maintenance; building regulations; building refurbishment; building services; at the end of this course students are able to: use mathematics as a tool for problem solving and as a method of communicating results; use laboratory, test and workshop equipment, appropriate to the discipline; acquire, manipulate and evaluate data using manual and information technology based methods; communicate effectively in a variety of contexts; manage projects, people, resources and time; use information technology effectively; appreciate professional and ethical responsibilities.
