Year 1: Students develop practical skills in modules such as: drama workshop; voice and body; and scriptwriting; as well as receive an introduction to the theoretical principles behind theatre in education and the community giving a foundation for more specialist work in year 2; the aim throughout is to provide a balance of developing practical ability alongside analytical and theoretical understanding; the practical work enables an examination of the theory and the theory helps develop the practical. Year 2: in performance languages students study British and Irish post war drama; and in performance modernisms students undertake a performance project; in theatre in education: theory and praxis students learn about applying the drama skills they are developing and underlying theoretical principles within specialised environments, and on attachment to community theatres and/or groups using applied drama as part of their activities. Year 3: students explore critically drama and theatre in the social context in the module theatre and society in Wales and examine drama in a wider cultural context in the diversity in the arts module; major project and dissertation.
