The course is designed to help students meet the benchmarks forInitial Teacher Education; it aims to ensure that students enter teaching with the professional skills, attitudes and competences required to focus students' subject expertise effectively on teaching and learning in the modern secondary school; it uses active and participatory styles of learning in order to meet students’ professional needs and to promote a commitment to continuing professional development; on completion of the course, graduates who are home-funded are normally eligible for the 1-year TeacherInduction Scheme which guarantees an academic session ofsupported, salaried induction to the profession within a Scottishsecondary school; those not eligible for this scheme are still eligible for provisional registration with the General TeachingCouncil for Scotland; students can qualify to teach in 1 or 2 subject areas from among all subject areas in the normal Scottish secondary curriculum; the course is modular and credit-rated, and students must acquire a total of 120 credits.
