This course is for a range of professionals: teachers; medical and healthcare staff; educational psychologists; speech and language therapists; residential care; community care or social work staff; and voluntary sector personnel; applications from parents, family members and individuals on the spectrum are welcomed; teachers enter the programme by transferring from the educational support programme after completing its 3 core modules, or by direct entry. The autism programme is not part of the national training framework (NTF) for training for Special Educational Needs, as the course is offered to a range of professionals; but the module understanding the impact of autism is offered within the NTF; the course is offered 1 evening each week during term time, with the exception of the understanding the impact of autism module, which is a 5-day course offered twice each year; the course mainly involves web-based learning, with some initial direct teaching.
