This degree provides the opportunity to develop group working, presentation, problem solving, report writing and critical/higher level analytical skills in the Management half of the degree, while students study the language, society, literature and thought of Spain and Latin America; students spend the third year of their course abroad in a Spanish-speaking country.Hispanic StudiesA third of teaching time is devoted to developing students’ written and oral fluency in Spanish, supported by language laboratory, video and satellite TV facilities and regular classes with native-speakers; level 1 provides a grounding in the language, culture, history and society of Spain and Latin America; suitably qualified dual Honours students can also take Portuguese or Catalan; levels 2 and 3 allow students to plan their work to suit their particular interests, offering a broad coverage of Spanish and Latin American culture, history and society; level 3 also includes practically-based modules on interpreting, translating, and teaching; there are a range of year abroad options in Spain and Latin America with potential placements with the British Council's teaching assistantship schemes in Spain and Latin America.ManagementAt level 1 students take core modules in behaviour at work, marketing and operations management, as well as taking optional modules in areas like accounting, economics, management information systems and quantitative methods. At levels 2 and 3 students have the opportunity to choose from a broad range of modules, like human resource management, management information systems, marketing and organizational behaviour; the management school has links with industry and professional organisations such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Institute of Personnel and Development.
