This course offers students an opportunity to graduate with a degree specifically related to digital forensics; it has been designed to prepare students to work professionally in a number of disciplines; graduates are conversant with technical, legal, ethical and social aspects of the civil and criminal activities used in the abuse of digital technology; this programme draws on 2 key areas of academic study: criminology and computing; the legal/professional strand establishes the context in which the digital forensics specialist performs; topics studied include: ethics and its relation to the law and computing; computer law; legal processes; digital evidence; the regulatory framework of digital investigation; business continuity planning; cybercrime; countering fraud and corruption; the technical strand, which occupies around 1/2 of the programme each semester, develops understanding of digital environments; from this understanding flows the ability to work with computers, either avoiding being the target of cybercrime or handling potential evidence after an incident.

Location

The University offers superb facilities in a vibrant waterfront location in the City of Portsmouth, with many shops, pubs, bars and restaurants around. Portsmouth has good road and rail links to other major cities. Just 90 minutes by direct train from the centre of London, Portsmouth is also within easy reach of Heathrow, Gatwick and Southampton airports.
