Nottingham, University of, BA (Hons), Portuguese (beginners) and Russian

Year 1: Students study Portuguese language and diverse aspects of Portuguese and Brazilian history and culture; in Russian, beginners have special introductory language modules which give students a good grasp of the spoken language; students who already know Russian take more advanced modules; all students take part in a special subsidised course in Russia in the summer vacation. Year 2: Students develop their knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese to prepare them for the year abroad; students also widen their knowledge of more specialist aspects of modern literature, culture and history; in Russian, students consolidate their studies in language and culture. Year 3: Depending on their degree programme, 1 semester is spent in Spain, Spanish America, Portugal or Brazil, studying in a higher education institution, working as a school assistant or on a work placement; the other semester is spent in Russia, taking courses or teaching English in a language school. Year 4: In Hispanic studies, students develop their language skills to degree level, and select specialist topics in the literature, culture and history of Spain, Portugal and Latin America; in Russian, students apply their language skills in high-level modules, including employment-related ones, and there are options in Serbian- Croatian and Slovene.
