Year 1: Intensive Arabic A; intensive Arabic B; research skills and methods; research methods and problems; advanced issues in the study of the Arab speaking world; on return from placement, students are required to undertake the School of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures (Manchester) diagnostic test in Arabic as part of the programme's compulsory skills audit/training needs analysis. Year 2: modern Islamic texts in Arabic (30 credits); classical Arabic Islamic texts (15 credits); Islamic exegetical texts in Arabic (15 credits); the politics of gender in the Arab world (15 credits); modern Arabic literature (15 credits); the Arab cultural renaissance (15 credits).
